YOU DON’T NEED GREAT FAITH…

I wonder if we haven’t made faith harder than God ever intended it to be.

We read about Abraham, Moses, David, Esther, Peter and Paul, and somewhere along the way we begin to think:

• God uses people with great faith.

• People who never doubt.

• People who never become afraid.

• People who always know exactly what God is doing.

But when I read the Bible carefully, I meet very different people:

• I see Moses saying, “Who am I?”

• I see Gideon hiding when God calls him a mighty warrior.

• I see Elijah exhausted beneath a tree.

• I see Peter stepping onto the water… and then sinking.

• I see a father standing before Jesus saying perhaps one of the most honest prayers in all of Scripture:

“I believe; help my unbelief” (Mark 9:24).

These were not people possessing some extraordinary reservoir of faith. They were ordinary people learning to trust an extraordinarily faithful God.

And perhaps that is where some of us have gotten it wrong. We keep looking inward, asking:

• Is my faith strong enough?

• Do I believe enough?

• Am I courageous enough?

• Am I spiritual enough for God to use me?

Maybe we are looking in the wrong direction.

Faith was never meant to make us impressed with ourselves. Faith turns our eyes toward Him.

The question is not whether I possess great faith. The question is whether the One in whom I have placed my little faith possesses great faithfulness.

AND HE DOES!

Somewhere in an Ugandan village today, there is a pastor standing before a congregation with very little education, very few resources and perhaps wondering whether he has anything worthwhile to give.

Somewhere in the West, there is a mother staring at bills she cannot pay, a man waiting for a medical report, a pastor wondering whether his ministry still matters, or an older believer asking whether God still has any use for him.

We may think God is searching for spiritual giants. Personally, I don’t believe He is.

I believe He is still looking for ordinary men and women who will place whatever faith they have into the hands of an extraordinary God and say:

“Lord, I don’t know how You are going to do this. I only know that You are faithful.”

That is enough to take the next step. Not because our faith is great. Because our God is.

So today, if your faith feels small, don’t spend the day measuring it. Look instead at the One who has never failed you.

“If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself” (2 Timothy 2:13).

Your confidence was never supposed to rest in your ability to hold tightly to God. It rests in the faithfulness of the God who is holding you.

Small faith.

Great God.

Great faithfulness.
